Welcome to my website. I congratulate you for making your health a priority by choosing to take the time to learn about the benefits Chiropractic care, and to discern if I seem like a practitioner that you can feel comfortable with. A little background, I earned my degree by attending both Montclair State College and Sherman College of Chiropractic. I have been a chiropractor since 1983 and am proud to say that I am as excited to be a Chiropractor now, as I was when I first graduated.
I was quite astonished to discover mid-way through my Chiropractic education, that my great-grandmother had also been a Chiropractor, surprisingly, during the first few decades of it's discovery!
This was an amazing, wonderful and unexpected full circle moment for me, to discover that my great grandmother had been one of these early brave and dedicated Chiropractors who paved the way for a new profession to be born. It allowed me to have a connection with her, since I had never had the chance to meet her. I was later fortunate to meet one of her grandchildren who actually had her diploma, and he gifted it to me. She had lived in his home at the end of her life, and he told me, "she used to walk around the house saying "all these grandchildren, and nobody wants to be a Chiropractor". So having not been able to do so in person, I honor her here. WELL DONE great grandmother, Regina Heim, Doctor of Chiropractic. We are all so very proud of you, and I am honored to follow in your footsteps. You got your wish!
I honestly simply love what I do. I believe I can speak for my patients and say that they feel genuinely cared for, and trust that I will do my upmost to discover what is causing their pain, and patiently, try everything I know in order to relieve it. They know I will take the time necessary to educate them to incorporate better habits, and if necessary, I will refer them to trusted top-notch medical professionals in the Orthopedic, Neurological, and pain management fields, as well as any medical specialist that may be necessary. I do not waste my patient's time or resources. With my clinical training and almost 40 years of experience, I know, upon examination and consultation if the patient is in need of Chiropractic care for the problem they are presenting with, or if they need to be referred to a different type of practitioner. When treatment proceeds, I will quickly recognize if my treatment is what will relieve the presenting problem, or if the patient needs to be referred out, or perhaps requires a combination of concurrent supportive care from another complimentary field, such as physical therapy, acupuncture or specialized massage treatments to help with tissues that may have scar formations, or long held entrenched abnormal muscle and ligament patterns that may be preventing the adjustments from holding. I have a trusted list of practitioners that I am happy to suggest to patients.
While I do explain why it is important and highly recommend to patients that they continue to support the health of their spine thru out their lives, just as they would their teeth, my patients are free to come and go in my practice as they choose. Some patients choose to maintain their health with regular preventive care, while others prefer to come in only when they have pain, and in my practice, patients always have the freedom to make that choice.
One of the most rewarding experiences for me that follows being in practice for almost 4 decades, has been when my pediatric patients enter adulthood and choose to continue care all throughout their lives, and then entrust me with the care of their own children's health. My "kids" have invited me to their Kindergarten class to be their "show and tell", on one precious occasion sweetly brought in their Halloween candy to share!, invited me to their plays and recitals, birthday parties, high school graduations, baby showers, and weddings and I've been extremely, extremely humbled and honored, to be included throughout the years. One of my dearest memories, is when a 7 year old boy had gotten into a schoolyard brawl, and when his mother opened the door as he arrived home and saw the state he was in, he bravely held his tears in, sniffed a few times, and told her, "don't worry, Dr. Terrie will fix it". We still laugh at the memory of the first time I met the 4 year old twins of a patient who stood quietly in amazement watching their mother be adjusted, not a word spoken from them. Shortly after they arrived home, I received a call from the mother, telling me, "we just got home, and my son fell down the stairs. As he's falling he is yelling back UP the stairs to me, " YOU HAVE TO TAKE ME TO THAT LADY! I THINK I JUST BROKE MY BACK!" Amazing how Chiropractic always so quickly makes sense to children, even without an explanation.
I am a perpetual student, I love to learn, and have strove to continuously upgrade my skills with yearly post-graduate training and my patients are always thrilled to benefit from the updated knowledge. A large part of my post graduate training has been gaining information on pediatric Chiropractic, sports injury rehab, nutrition and anti-aging protocols in support of the musculoskeletal and neurological systems.
Personally, I am an avid hiker, stencil and mural artist, and a huge book worm. I have begun to pursue my life long dream of writing children's books, and I love to watch ice hockey!
The type of Chiropractic experiences I have to offer are; low force techniques for use during during pregnancy, infancy and childhood, geriatric care, and school sports injuries. I have had professional athlete experience for the sports of Ice Hockey, and Basketball, and have dealt with many school sports injuries from football, wrestling, baseball, soccer and lacrosse. I specifically utilize low-force and gentle chiropractic techniques, and gentle manual massage techniques and sports taping if needed, to support the adjustment. I also have training in cranial work, TMJ relief and full extremity treatments for injuries involving the shoulder, wrist, hand, elbow, knee, hip, ankle, and feet.
I am a Reiki level II practitioner, and sessions are available upon request.
